Connor Spelliscy Explains Crypto Advocacy & Policy & The Evolution of Ecosystems Around Blockchain
We were honored to have Connor Spelliscy on this episode of NEWFORUM. Connor is the Founder of the DAO Research Collective, Co-Founder of the Blockchain Association, and the Canadian Web3 Council. He is also Connor is also a Mentor at Creative Labs.
We were thrilled to talk with him about DAO Structuring, Governance, and how he sees the Ecosystems around Blockchains and DAOs evolving.
Conner heard about Web3 in the summer of 2017 when his brother’s ( a developer) friends started buying Bitcoin and Eth; it was made apparent to him that it was something interesting through an organization called Singularity University. Conner shared that Singularity University focuses on new technologies, and he was at one of their events and saw a presentation by Andreas Antonopoulos on Bitcoin and Crypto.
He was a lawyer while discovering the space and thought it was something that could be critical for the legal industry or the field that was going to be very relevant.
Conner was working at a large Canadian Law firm at the time and helped start their Crypto practice.
“I realized pretty earlier that what we need is industry associations; we need to not just talk to only lawyers, but government and help them understand Crypto and Blockchain. How it can be relevant and how regulations and policies need an amendment to encourage responsible innovation in Crypto…” — Connor
This realization led Connor to Co-Found an organization called the Blockchain Association, a leading industry association in Crypto and has worked with organizations like Protocol Labs and Hangar and DCG, and a few others.
“I spend a lot of my time thinking- how can we help governments around the world, understand how transformative Crypto and Blockchain can be and how it can be used, really for good which is where I see its potential…” — Connor
Conner shares more about his unique background and transition journey in the Crypto space in his interview.
After conversing about Connors’s background and views on Crypto and Blockchain and how they can positively impact society, we shifted the conversation to the DAO side of Web3. We asked Connor what specifically about DAOs caught his interest and why he decided to form a DAO. We also discussed the difference between DAO and LLC and what structures and policies must be in place for a DAO to function. We concluded the episode listening to Connor’s views about the current state of Web3 and Decentralization on Blockchain.
